River Ouse - Home Made Trap (October 2007)
Two men recently attempted to illegally set a home made fish trap in the River Ouse at Bedford. When challenged by a local Angler they abandoned their net which was latter seized by Environment Agency officers.
The Environment Agency regulates fisheries in England and Wales for the benefit of anglers and to safeguard the Environment. Removing fish from rivers without consent is illegal and anyone caught doing so will be prosecuted.
Environment Agency Officers do regularly patrol rivers and lakes, but we rely on help from anglers, the public and other water users to report anything suspicious.
Richard Ingham for the Environment Agency said “ We encourage people to report these incidents to us immediately so we have a chance of catching the culprits in the act, in any event by reporting it to us we are able to target our patrols to certain locations and times”
